SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Sep 27, 2005 --
WJ Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: WJCI), a
leading designer and supplier of RF solutions for the wireless
infrastructure and RFID reader markets, today announced the immediate
availability of the WJ SR2200 high-performance RFID Reader Platform. In
addition to being EPC UHF Class 1 Gen 2 and ISO 18000-6B compliant, the SR
2200 platform is also backward compatible with EPC Class 1, 0, and 0+.
Designed by the same team that developed the original Gen 1 (EPC class 0)
reader, the WJ 2200 high-performance RFID Reader Platform builds upon WJ's
years of reader experience to set a new standard in today's demanding
multi-protocol environment.
"WJ's RFID heritage and strength are based on its strong RF legacy combined
with market-leading RFID specific firmware and DSP capabilities. This
unique combination enables us to provide very versatile RFID reader
solutions to our OEM Reader partners and customers," said Chuck Lau, senior
vice president and general manager for WJ Communications. "The SR2200
reader platform employs our unique software defined radio approach to
provide a highly flexible and configurable reader solution. This modular
platform solution was designed specifically to enable our OEM reader
customers to have the ability to achieve 'tailored' solutions in a very
short period of time. We believe this Portal or Fixed Reader Platform
solution will be very attractive for a variety of markets and applications
such as CPG, retailers, DOD, Pharma companies and others."
The WJ SR2200 high-performance RFID Reader Platform introduces new
technology and design attributes that will greatly enhance its read
performance. A unique MCA (Modular Component Architecture) has a
reader engine core that is based on the latest high-performance DSP
(Digital Signal Processor) and controller processors. WJ has applied its
expertise to develop DxP (DSP extreme processing) that exploits the
inherent power of the hardware to provide an unmatched level of performance
and sensitivity in today's demanding environments. Other innovations that
will enhance performance include an Autonomous Reader Mode.
WJ has architected the SR2200 platform so partners in the US or
International markets can create unique product solutions based on
different RF hardware requirements or interface needs. LSIS, part of the
Korea's LG conglomerate, is the first high-profile partner to offer a
reader based on the WJ SR2200 platform. And since the WJ SR2200
high-performance RFID Reader Platform is a software-based radio, this smart
reader can be controlled and programmed via industry standard connectivity
such as TCP/IP using the emerging EPC Host Interface Protocol.
